Equality at Shurdington

The Equality Act 2010 requires us to publish information that demonstrates that we have due regard for the need to:

 

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment, victimisation and any other conduct prohibited by the Equality Act 2010
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it
  • Foster good relationships between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.

Shurdington Cof E Primary is an inclusive school where we focus on the well-being and progress of every child and where all members of our community are of equal worth. Our Policy which can be found below clearly states "Equal opportunities should permeate all aspects of school life, and is the responsibility of every member of the school community... We believe that all members of our community should be treated with equal respect and consideration. We will not tolerate acts of discrimination at Shurdington CE Primary School".

Our Equality Objectives:

Objective 1: To raise awareness and appreciation across the whole school community of the diversity within modern Britain and the wider world in relation to ethnicity and background, religion, LGBTQ and those with a disability; in order to promote respect in our school community and beyond

Objective 2: To raise the attainment and improvement of disadvantaged pupils.

Objective 3: To review levels of parental engagement in school life to ensure there is equal access for all with a special focus on parents of Disadvantaged and EAL children

Objective 1: To raise awareness and appreciation across the whole school community of the diversity within modern Britain and the wider world in relation to ethnicity and background, religion, LGBTQ and those with a disability; in order to promote tolerance and respect in our school community and beyond

 

Ensure that images, posters and displays across school are diverse and celebrate how we are all different.

Seek out materials/resources that reflect the diversity of our school and local community without stereotyping.

Ensure Book Spines include high quality books that support the delivery of a diverse and equitable curriculum and promote a love of reading.

Continue to ensure that positive messages and actions about inclusion, equity, equality, and diversity are part of our daily practice.

Objective 2: To raise the attainment and improvement of disadvantaged pupils.

 

All class disadvantaged pupils to be discussed within PPM and insight tracker used to inform discussions.

Disadvantaged chn to have priority this academic year with 1:1 tutoring.

SLT and subject leader monitoring to focus on challenge of disadvantaged. Support teachers with relevant CPD where necessary.

Objective 3: To review levels of parental engagement in school life to ensure there is equal access for all with a special focus on parents of Disadvantaged and EAL children.

Monitor attendance at parents evening and school events to monitor engagement.

Meet with groups of parents/ hold parent surveys where necessary to find out barriers and put in actions where necessary.

Pastoral Lead to support particular families where appropriate.
